AMD Athlon X2 270 3.4Ghz CPU - ASRock N68 VS3 Motherboard - 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz Bundle Review

I like the Asrock N68, now with DDR3 memory slots, up to 8Gigs, so ready for the latest operating systems.
If used with MS Windows XP, the operating system will only detect around 3.25Gigs so no good installing more than 4Gigs of memory, if only for XP.
The item arrives with the memory,CPU and cooling fan installed, so ready to fix into a case.
Sata and Pata connectivity, only one Pata port.
2 Sata data cables are provided.
So, if "scratch-building" or, replacing an older board, this is worthy of consideration......

AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0 GHz 2MB Cache Dual Core Processor Review

The heart of my first computer build, a lot of research brought me to this product. Intel vs AMD seems difficult to separate, though as I had decided on an AMD motherboard then of course I needed an AMD processor (be careful right socket as well). Watch out with the memory type to use as I found that FSB 800mhz was the maximum for this processor, which I think means if you use any higher it is just wasted. Below the price and performance levels of the quad cores, this is still a very fast and able processor. Scores highly in the Windows 7 performance tables. This processor is OK for W7 32/64bit ( I use 64 bit). It was easy to install, and even for a first time buyer the instructions were hardly necessary. The bundled cooler looks a bit flimsy, but the appearance does not mean any lack of performance. Only a few weeks after building the PC I have no problems...............

AMD ADX260OCGMBOX Athlon II X2 260 - 3.2 GHz AM3 CPU, Retail Packaged Review

I define normal as someone using a computer for watching videos, doing some office type work word processing and similar activities, and maybe the odd game.
I upgraded a few machines from an older Athlon 64 x2 4200 (2.2 GHz Dual core socket 939, which was at the time a great processor but fairly expensive.
In layman's terms this is roughly twice as fast as the older Athlon 64 dual core possibly a touch more, runs much cooler and consumes less power..and as the technology has improved it's much cheaper too.

I've paired this processor with some of the excellent budget ASrock boards, super combination and makes for a very affordable update for folks running older more dated dual cores, or even single core computers.

You have to decide what you are doing with a computer to work out what type of machine to build. My budget builds are usually this CPU, with the ASrock N68C-S-UCC (there are other good models too) I add 4Gb of ram and an AMD 6450 (512Mb normally) if they're likely to use or need a bit more 3D than the motherboard has on offer. End result is a very decent performance for most "normal" pc users, and the addition of a more up to date, but inexpensive GPU helps with HD video decoding, flash playing, blu ray/DVD playback..this is why even a low end GPU can be useful by offloading processor intensive tasks to the graphics card. It is also useful for folks who play the odd lighter game, though still capable of running more modern ones if you are not pushing high resolution or don't mind turning the settings down............

AMD Athlon II X2 270 Processor - 3.4 GHz, Socket AM3, AMD64 Technology, Retail Packaged Review

I bought this processor to upgrade from a amd sempron on my second computer, a 3.4 ghz dual core processor for 40 quid is a steal as it is a very fast processor. ok it wont overclock like the black edition processors but it will run most high end games and video conversion is pretty quick and windows 7 64 bit runs very snappy. the stock amd cooler supplied is the usual noisy standard with average cooling ability although it does struggle when converting video to divx and i recommend that if you use this for video conversion get the arctic freezer proArctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 Quiet CPU Cooler - Intel & AMD this does a great job of keeping the cpu temperatures down when it is under heavy load. this processor is well worth the money as i paid double this price three years ago for a athlon 5000 black edition which only clocked up to 3.1 ghz...............

Always use AMD and know this CPU well. Delivery was good and service was as described. Well pleased. Since retiring I have turned my attention to the hardware and software choice for my clients, nearly all retired or school age. I charge them for the parts and software and so I look for real value. Here I found it...............
